We won't lose anything by pushing back against the USA.
The administration has shown they are quick to change direction even when agreements are in place.

Maybe his enablers told Trump the site had been "obliterated" because that's what he wanted.
If Trump didn't believe the site was obliterated they realised his crazy ego driven arrogance would possibly result in a nuclear strike to ensure he was correct .

This also drifts into the attitudes of other countries eg Australia, where the opposition defence minister stated a few days ago that " we live in a might is right world and we need to accept this". This was in relation to a call to increase defence spending (presumably mainly to the US)
