History and reading/writing teacher @CUNY. As a student once wrote of me in an evaluation, “CAN BE FUNNY AT TIMES." I believe that we will win.
Time to hit snoozy on nuzzi.

One of the many reasons that I hate ChatGPT and other LLMs is that they are fucking up the reputation of the EmDash--our greatest form of punctuation. The below twist on a popular meme--which was going around awhile ago--hit harder for me than any other I've ever seen. I remain an EmDash apologist.

I don’t have an Epstein note, but for some reason I wrote this down as a question I think a journalist should ask Trump.

There’s only one good Phrenology and its 23rd birthday is later this month.

Marching with a huge labor contingent at the #NoKings protest in Manhattan. This is just a feeder march but it’s very big—huge turnout from city unions.

So much energy and righteous anger here after the horrifying attack against a woman by an ICE thug earlier today.

It’s loud! About to march past Federal Plaza right now. #ICEoutofNY

ICE out of New York!
September 25, 2025 at 10:40 PM
NYC-area folks! Please come out to this "New Yorkers Against ICE" rally tomorrow at 6:00PM in Foley Square. My union helped organize this action, and we're hoping for a big turnout. Foley Square is just a couple of blocks away from the immigration courthouses where ICE is kidnapping our neighbors.

One useful post I’ve seen about Charlie Kirk is this one on YourFaceMyFace (this was my never-went-online late grandmother’s term for it) from someone I went to high school with. Important to remember that a significant majority of people would say the same thing.

We lived in an era of cursed, dystopian headlines, but this has to be one of the most cursed and most dystopian. ("Reemerges" really adds to it--like where was she and was she having so much contact with robots.)

I've been reading a bit about the Otpor movement that overthrew Milosevic (also discussed in today's Anti-Authoritarian Playbook by Scot Nakagawa--see screenshot).

It gets me wondering what sort of creative/funny protest actions we can come up with along the lines of the "barrel protest." 1/4

Perhaps my favorite explanation of a key part of the NYC lexicon—the many meanings of “you good.”

Here’s the feed info. That little archive box image at the end automatically puts your post on that feed so long as you’ve been added to the feed.

This sign echoes a sign from the airport Muslim Ban protests early in the first Trump regime that I thought was one of the best protest signs I’ve ever seen.

Taking the streets in downtown Newark at the #NoKings rally.
June 14, 2025 at 4:45 PM
Newark’s #NoKings rally is still filling up on a rainy day. Trump and the GOP are reviled here, tons of support from passing cars. March still to come.

I’m in no position to evaluate the methodology, but they did discuss it and apparently it’s not uncommon—the basic logic is described here.

Some (chaotic) video from the scene (not taken by me).

Millions of people in the streets but this story has top billing on CNN (protest story is *way* down after 15 or more other stories on their the app). What percentage of Americans even know who Doug Emhoff is? (Also, seriously, who cares what he says?)
