That they won't work because many people need to live their lives across a much broader geography such as a city or city-region for economic or other reasons? To be clear, I'm not arguing that, I'm just saying there's a world of difference between such arguments and tin foil hat territory.

In many cases the longer through roads created through plans of subdivisions ran parallel to the township lots in the original 18th century surveys. You can really see this in the road pattern centred around Yonge and Eglinton where there is a 90 degree twist in the lot fabric on the west side.
