Strategic image and motion.

Skiing, mountain biking, cycling, disc golf, gaming. I'll try anything once.
I converted an unused nook in our building to a bike repair room. Gets used by all sorts, all the time, raised the money to supply it as a door to door fundraiser rather than strata fees.

Need to do some labeling and signage still but I think it worked!

Strawberry vending machine on the bike route to Antwerp, just across the Dutch border. Wild.

Imagine if the gulf islands had bike lanes like this everywhere, a couple of e-bike rental shops at the ferry terminal, and luggage delivery.

You don’t have to imagine it, you just have to visit the north islands of the Netherlands.

Nice to see the city is growing, with mature trees along the canals. Definitely has that new development feel as you move into the outer rings but time and effort creates big trees and rich communities.

Some very interesting modern architecture near the core, littering out to classic mid century brick blocks in surrounding rings.

Spent an afternoon in Almere, famously pulled out of the ocean in the 50s and 60s and built over the last 60 years or so.

Amsterdam RoW priority by type:

- Tram
- Bikes
- Pedestrians
- motorcycles
- Lorries/trucks
- Cars

Truly the way.

Correct transit:pedestrian:transit ratio (there’s a couple bike lanes in here somewhere).

Bonus, look at this architecture for a daycare centre 🤩

The country roads that connect towns move faster, but traffic calming measures slow things down. Note this is a two way road, with dashed lines narrow the lanes, and the narrow single car passage is used in places approaching main roads where speeds are higher, or at bike lane crossings.

Exurban bedroom communities like this are car light, of course. Bike lanes connect small villages together as much as roads and the streets in the village provide for plenty of walking shortcuts and bike only routes. Speeds are slow and the roads are cobblestones. Kids roam pretty freely.

Homes range in height from one to three stories in these 29th century villages and are typically brick structure. You see some low rise apartments but the most common form is the row homes, with some duplexes and single family, especially as you approach the water.
August 23, 2025 at 10:18 AM
Row homes here are freehold, you figure out the commons with your neighbours directly. Street parking is common (you just pay to have a carve out created), even though many homes have a small garage, it’s typical for bikes and storage to win out for that space.

It provides a very different window into how the Dutch have solved for space. The village is hundreds of years old, but is shaped by post war housing (like much of the Netherlands). Here’s one typical row home here.

Even wilder when you look at Texas having months where solar out produced nat gas and they are adding solar at twice the rate of California.

I don’t get the appeal of riding down cliff faces but I can appreciate the fact that others do.

Might be tough to figure out the trend here.

RIP trusty steed. If anyone is selling an XL MTB frame I’m in the market!

Maybe I'm missing something here? When I plop a 3km pin on the map at Georgia and Granville, I get this image—the stanley park border is about 2.2km away, and at 3km you get a pretty neat circle that pretty much includes a good chunk of the broadway plan—in fact BP is spread out a little more.

A bit of personal news for the few folks not on instagram: My partner and I eloped off in Argentina last week!

The narrowest home in Buenos Aires, at 2.8m wide. 2.2m wide internally, 13m deep. They give tours on weekends, I won’t be here, sadly. It’s a national monument. @lanefab.com
