This chart is really striking. It comes from a recent investigation by Calmatters into conditions at California emergency shelters. It makes me think about arguments that emergency shelter should be prioritized instead of furthering Housing First policies.

I was also fascinated to learn that jails in Southern Arizona held Chinese people forced out of Sonora, Mexico in the early 1930s. This is from Erika Lee’s The Making of Asian America.

Now the historic lake in which the prisons in Corcoran are built is once again filled with water, with the future, both in terms of more water and extreme heat, looking dangerous.
