Spending today at the National Association of Examinations Officers conference. At the coalface of exam delivery and invigilation. Excellent sessions, insights, and shared experience. @NAEOUK

Delighted to be at #eAAConf24. The AI Symposium today is a full house - great content, pertinent examples, challenging concepts. Thanks to @eAssess for a great day.

I'm at #eAAConf24 on Tuesday - talking digital exams, on-screen delivery, and the 20 year digitisation journey for England's GCSEs.
November 18, 2024 at 5:49 PM
Nothing crazy about doing school tests on-screen. Scotland, Wales, and over 30 countries already do it.
Best read the report first, you've had a mare @sjk26381 - Sending thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

Digital exam tech co's: Here's what you're up against. Educators clinging to sending insecure, clumsy, and time-consuming USBs by post.
Other countries stopped this years ago.
But having a hissy fit on the socials is easier than making your life easier!🤣

Too rude @mathew_lynch44. There's a big world of assessment out there. Shutting out different and better ideas is unhelpful. Shame you can't use your energy to create positive change to help your fellow teachers and learners.

Thank you @rethinkassessmt @HMC_org @ukEdge for a stimulating and insightful #NGA2024 conference!
Always good to hear on-the-ground #assessment experience, and what educators and learners believe it should be.
November 18, 2024 at 5:47 PM
Big education brands across exam owners, schools, policy at #NGA2024.
All want digital, 'un-boring' assessment, with inclusivity and contemporary delivery.
Regulators run risk of conflict, and brands going their own way, if they stick with a 'boring guardianship' line.
November 18, 2024 at 5:47 PM
Intriguing comment at #NGA2024
'Assessment is just being patched up. Change is needed, ensuring access for everyone'.
Paper-behind-glass digital exams are proven, but is this just 'patching'? Food for thought!
November 18, 2024 at 5:47 PM
Intrigued to hear OECD on PISA, their digital exam journey, and what the 2025 language assessment will mean. #NGA2024

Delighted to be at #NGA2024. Looking forward to hearing more on Next Generation Assessment!

Call the university Personal Statement what it is:
an open book, untimed exam. Without a grading scheme or psychometric underpinning.
If the statement is replaced by new questions, good luck discovering if they've been pre-trialled...and that's even closer to an exam!
November 18, 2024 at 5:46 PM
Quoting 'Cognitive Science' and 'Look at me, I'm a big CEO of a school' looks incredibly foolish, narcissistic, and ill informed, as the world progresses school digital exams.
But what do I know...I've only done this for a quarter of a century! 🤣
November 18, 2024 at 5:45 PM
Thank you @eAssess for an insightful #BMC2023 conference!
Good examples of AI deployed in the field, and objections being overcome.

The Gitobitan: 4,000 seats for online exams. Extraordinary.
November 18, 2024 at 5:44 PM
Not just 'paper behind glass' - there's a big tech toolkit available to keep assessment fair, valid, and reliable.
November 18, 2024 at 5:44 PM
Paper vs digital exam delivery logistics have different risk profiles. Exam owners don't always have the full picture of what their centres can cope with.
Here are 6 risks that paper delivery causes.
November 18, 2024 at 5:44 PM
Liberating school halls for assembly, worship, PE, art, drama, music, etc is possible, if school exams are moved offsite for digital delivery.
No more worries about internet connectivity, finding laptops, or resting actors as invigilators.
November 18, 2024 at 5:44 PM
Interesting to compare AQA's primary research study from 1700 students vs the YouGov poll of 2677 adult survey on digital GCSEs.
The direction of travel is to digital, but plenty of hoary myths, tropes, and sneers to overcome.
