@geoenergyprof.bsky.social
Professor for Sustainable Geoenergy at TU Delft and passionate 🇪🇺, conducting #research in #geoenergy, #geoscience, & #energytransition (views are my own)
At this year's #EAGEAnnual2025 my colleague Anne gave a truly passionate and compassionate pitch why #geoscience #education needs to become more inclusive and diverse if we are serious about inspiring new talents to enter this field and work on the #energytransition @rockdeftud.bsky.social ⚒️💡🔋

Together with colleagues from @imperialcollegeldn.bsky.social we have tried to bring some clarity into the concept of capillary pinning during #CCS, considering the scales and heterogeneity in #geology www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

🚨New #openaccess paper: Jointly with colleagues from Imperial College London & University of Calgary we are answering the question at which scale we can average properties of the Bunter Sandstone, a key target for #geothermal energy & #CCS in Europe #geology #energytransition doi.org/10.1016/j.ad...

Our colleagues and friends from Electricite Strasbourg are busy promoting the FindHeat research project, funded by Hoirzon Europe, at the Geotherm Conference & Expo. FindHeat develops new tools and workflows to accelerate and de-risk geothermal exploration and appraisal. #geology #energysky

Some truly excellent talks on energy transition, critical raw materials, climate change & water resources - and a much needed positive message on #CO2 emissions from @kornelis.bsky.social at the half-Lustrum event that our #geoscience & #mining student association at TU Delft hosted today.

More #geology field work impressions from the CrossScale team (can you spot the drone?), and more samples being collected to be analysed in the lab together with @rockdeftud.bsky.social ⚒️
February 5, 2025 at 11:29 AM
Some stunning pictures from the CrossScale team's fieldwork in Germany, studying types and scales of heterogeneities in the Rotliegend, a major formation targeted for #geothermal energy and #CCS in Europe. Looking forward to working with @rockdeftud.bsky.social to analyse the samples! ⚒️

Lots of fun learning about induced seismicity at the EPIS meeting (and presenting the Delft Geothermal Project to an audience patient enough to listen to a reservoir modeller), followed by meeting old and new colleagues at the DeepNL meeting where our CrossScale PhDs showed their first poster. ⚒️🔌💡

We have a logo for our EU Horizon Europe funded FindHeat project and some cool merch as well. The FindHeat project aims to advance the development of #geothermal #energy thanks to better understanding of uncertainties related to #geology and #geoscience ⚒️🔌💡

A truly inspiring 2 days at the Energi Simulation School in Banff, Canada, exploring with students from across the world the technical, societal, and ethical challenges that we encounter when transitioning to a timely and fair net-zero energy future without leaving anyone behind. 🔌💡

Well, this was the last straw that caused me to close my account on the other site. So let's restart here. What I am passionate about (in no particular order)? Sustainability, a just energy transition, geothermal, CCS, DEI, learning from others, my students, my family, our dog, cycling, outdoors

Today is world #geothermal #energy day - so why not use your #geoscience skills and apply for this #PhD vacancy in assessing geological, technical and economic uncertainties related during #geothermal exploration and appraisal at TU Delft bit.ly/3Ue1zw6

Congratulations to Alfredo Freites who defended his #PhD thesis today. Alfredo is one #PhD students who started with me when I was still working at Heriot-Watt University. Thank you to Katriona Edlmann & Dan Arnold for conducting the viva and Pat Corbett & Florian Doster for the co-supervision 🎉

In some personal news, I am really looking forward to this endeavour and working jointly with the fantastic editorial board & reviewers. Do you have some #geoscience R&D related to the #energytransition? Then why not consider Geoenergy for publishing it?
