As Astoria has gone to the breakers today, it seems appropriate to post a photo in commemoration of this fine ship's long career. She is seen here as Azores, arriving at Kiel almost exactly eleven years ago, on 10 July 2014.

Marinetraffic provides aggregated shipping density maps for past years such as this for 2022. Might be of help. Will be interesting to see the changes due to the Red Sea/Houthi attacks once Marinetraffic provides the data for 2023/2024.

AHTS #SkandiMinder seen during a #KielCanal transit 16 Apr 2025, en route from Gdansk to Vlissingen. Built in 2018 by Kleven Verft AS, Ulsteinvik, Norway, she was renamed from Maersk Minder in December 2024.

BN di Navigazione ("Blu Navy") and serving the Elba Island to mainland Italy route, purchased the Danish ferry Samsø. The ship was renamed Aethalia and departed the Danish port of Svendborg on 8 February 2025. The vessel is seen here in the Kiel Canal later that day, en route to Genoa for refit.

Die #Ostseesturmflut 2023 generiert neue lohnenswerte Leitfragen für den #GeoUnterricht. Sollten bestehende Freizeit- & Tourismusinfrastrukturen wie Marinas, Seebrücken, "erste Lagen" usw. aufgegeben werden? Welche nachhaltigen Alternativen sind denkbar?
