Another person who believes in peace, protecting the environment and social justice while hiking, kayaking, finding petroglyphs and standing stones. A former public defender. Occasionally geocaching, camping and watching darts. Skeptical of space operas.
Imagining Peace is a start. Reykjavik.

In 1976, the Continental Walk for peace and social justice arrived in Washington DC. Things have not turned for the better since then, but in many ways the walk will never end. We continue to resist and to believe that peace is the way.

And now my favorite sport of PDC darts joins the rush for money
October 6, 2025 at 3:18 AM
It’s a sad day when the PDC puts money ahead of human rights.

One of the lost plaques. A little different than the usual plaques. One grove had a series

Somehow, Social Security lying about the tax cuts for billionaires bill does not make me trust them.

No Kings in Fairfax CA. My Elk not Kings sign might have been a little obscure. Someone asked if I was from the National Parks. But I stand by it

Groves around Jedediah Smith State and National Park had benches with with memorials and sayings, such as an ode to the supernal silence of the area. A ranger confirmed they were stolen since our last visit. Luckily the trees remain.

Spending the night in Ogallala NE allowed us to see the famous water tower in the night and day. And if an orb happened to fly by, so much the better. Nebraska is more mysterious than many think.

Trillium Day celebrates the first blooms of the year.

I have hiked in our local for as long as I can remember (or care to say). I have long heard that there may be river otters. We finally met them. I was not prepared to take a photo and they were not posing. But the important thing was knowing they were there.

Nothing special. An afternoon hike in the watershed. First blooms on an overcast day.

By favorite spam for the day. Even if you believed it was legitimate would you buy a money saving device from the Oligarch-In-Chief?

A periodic reminder not to damage our national parks, like someone did driving into the Eureka Dunes. Our last trip there was beautiful. Maybe we need to return.

The NY Times described this as a “quirky tourist attraction” so we headed to Berryessa for a quick getaway.

I learned in the article that it is properly called a Morning Glory, but who calls the Glory Hole that?

My favorite sport. professional darts, has had at least one trans player, Noa-Lynn van Leuven. The Darts Regulation Authority supports trans and non-binary players. Somehow the quality and popularity of the sport continues to grow. We need to stop the oligarchs here.

We managed to kayak in the Elkhorn Slough shortly before the lithium batteries exploded and the area was closed.

The 21st marks the anniversary of the start of the 1976 Continental Walk for Disarmament and Social Justice. I was privileged to walk across the country. In the age of Trump its ideals seem far away. But resistance is for the long haul.

I have long wanted to visit what remains of the USS Hermes, formerly a coast guard cutter now reduced to metal in the bay near the San Rafael bridge. Today was the day.

I love to kayak on Clear Lake, but the nearby town in named for a settle who raped and murdered the Pomo nation. A massacre there killed 2-300 people. It’s time to change the name.

The poet Kenneth Rexoth once lived in a cabin in Devil's Gulch, now in Sam Taylor State Park. He described salmon so numerous that he could not sleep. Their numbers are nowhere near that, but the 2-3 dozen we saw today were more than I have seen.

And if you really want to get into the holiday spirit I recommend Gibb’s album “Once l Dreamed of Christmas.” It’s sold on Amazon for $699 (not by Otis). But it also can be streamed.
