My father went over in Dec 1943 on the Queen Elizabeth and returned Aug 1945 on the Queen Mary.
The Queens could carry a full division + more (and fast) and played a vital role in the buildup for D-day.

My father was a rural doc at a time/place when/where they delivered their own babies, performed their own surgery, and acted as the emergency room 24 hours a day - and made house calls regardless of time or weather.
He bristled greatly at insurance company interference in his care of patients.
