Trying to Live Not by Lies in Denver. Happily married.
…hoping our lefty Supreme Court will finally put us plebeians in our place and give them free rein to rob us blind.

…if power isn’t so cowardly as to delete their account in a fit of virtue signaling pique.

So, will Denver City Council create an account here and allow for some public engagement?

And finally, “Elon Musk” is bad for “conflicts of interest”. Not sure what that means, but he’s clearly the new orange man bad, and his even greater sin is owning a platform that lets ordinary people interact, speak their minds, and speak truth to power…

“Misinformation” too lacks meaning, and is a favorite term of the censor. In practice, speech is labeled “misinformation” to discredit the speech or the speaker. It is a spell, not reasoning. It is meant to stifle viewpoints or shore up a shaky narrative.

The article subhead points to “violent rhetoric, misinformation, and Elon Musk…”

What is violent rhetoric? I don’t know. Do you? Threats of violence can and should be handled by law enforcement, but I suspect much that falls into this category is legally protected speech that Council doesn’t like.

2. Increase the difficulty for citizens to realize they are not alone in objecting to a Council action.

3. Increase the difficulty for citizens to know and share what Council is doing.

Solving these problems doesn’t take millions. It takes leadership, undoing the crazy bus/bike takeover, deregulation, policing, and a justice system that enforces consequences.

Will City leaders and staff have the humility to change course?

Guess what issues DPD says create our “perception” of crime?
-narcotics
-shoplifting
-damaging property

Until the utopians took over, those were crimes. Here in reality, those things, plus an inability to drive and park downtown, make places like Cherry Creek a much more attractive destination.

Ha! The same thing happened to me when I tried to petition on to CPN in ~2003. Back then, CHUN & CBID were tops; I haven’t been involved in years. The Bluebird District came to be through Colfax on the Hill, which was also very effective for many years. The Bluebird District BID does good work.

Thank you! I rarely open Bluesky. But this is really helpful. I had not heard of Congress Park for All. What a great idea to open up the communications!

Thanks so much.

Years later, I see what a thankless job running a neighborhood org is. People come and go as neighborhood issues pop up. They can be wonderful groups but are rarely truly representative. But, they can be a very useful resource and starting place for people to engage.

A number of years ago, a group of us thought our RNO did not understand the needs and perspectives of neighbors who lived closest to the commercial corridor. We attempted to nominated to run for the Board through a petition process and were unsuccessful. So, we had to advocate directly with the City

yard signs. Congress Park publishes a seasonal print newsletter distributed by volunteers door to door.

When I served, we held frequent social events, went door to door, and worked to build an email list so we could communicate.

To my knowledge, the City does not regulate how a given RNO communicates with residents. It *may* require publishing notice of an Annual Meeting, but a website or social post may suffice.

Each RNO, like the neighborhoods, and frankly volunteer-run groups, communicates differently. SCPNA posts …

City Ordinances require that RNOs be notified of a proposed change as part of the administrative/legal process. That used to be by letter, but is likely by email to the RNO president, board rep, or ED for a larger org like CHUN.

If the City failed to properly notice by law, that’s a problem.

Sorry for the super delayed response. I keep forgetting to look at this app.

The notification process I, and so believe INC, was referring to was from the City to the RNOs, not RNOs to neighbors.

Some is controlled by ordinance, other by custom. For Liquor licensing, zoning changes, etc

Thanks; I’m well aware of my RNO, and have served on the board in the past. Not trying to be argumentative; my point was that INC has been an honest partner for the 25+ years I’ve been in and out of active RNO participation. If they say the City didn’t follow process, I believe them.
December 15, 2024 at 6:35 AM
INC’s letter you posted said the City didn’t follow proper process. I have no reason to doubt INC’s veracity.

Has anyone gone on the record about that? Every article I’ve read quotes anonymous sources. OTOH, dozens of current/recent coworkers and show guests are on the record calling bs.

Thanks for putting this together. I’m halfway through and, as usual, it’s excellent.
