...dominate the luxury car market in Portugal. Also, with the advent of EFTA, American imports had a bigger levy compared to European cars. In 1980 the law was relaxed for cars under 2000kg (that's when the SD1 was finally introduced) and in 1986 that law was dropped when Portugal entered the EEC

...almost all car imports, so CKD's had to be built with a minimum of 15% of local content and only a fraction of cars could be imported yearly and reserved for the likes of Rolls Royce, Jaguar and other big engined cars. This spelled almost the end of sale American cars in Portugal that used to...

The Datsun 1000 was the first Japanese car assembled in Europe (around 1968, but can't find exact date) at the Movauto plant in Setúbal, Portugal. Movauto was a big plant tahg used to assemble CKDs for several manufacturers, including Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Mercedes.

Mid to early 00's is peak car era for me and a sample of that era is represented here on a pic I took earlier today on my local Tesco Car Park.

Some say that this cash machine in Portugal, was the world's first and preceded by two years the one installed by Barclays at Enfield in 1967. But was it really an ATM? Making a video about this soon

Shortly after I bought the car, me and my friend went on a day trip to London and it was bliss. A year later, in 2008, got this very early 318is which i sold in 2011.
Only 9 years separate this two car in terms of registration

Yes, i'm posting about E30's again!
A friend of mine sent me pics of the '83 323i E30 i owned from '07 to '13. Here, i only had the car for a couple of weeks, still with the black side strip. It had PAS, electric windows & sunroof, central locking, etc. A bit rusty, but only £170 with 10mts MOT!

Facebook reminded me that 15 years ago I bought this 1986 BMW 320i Auto.
It was one of the worst kept cars I ever had; overheated, heater didn't work, suspension knocks, heater not working and had very crusty arches... but silky smooth engine and had an MOT!

This photo came up on a Portuguese classic car FB group and it's one of the many Seat Malagas from the police fleet from the late 80's to mid 90's. They weren't great as most were diesel (1.7L?) and numbers quickly dwindled, in contrast to the Fiat Tempras that went well into the early 00's

Every couple of weeks or so I ventilate, startup an drive the E12 to make sure nothing seizes.

Risky shot, but I have decided to create a new channel called Gentil's Garage Extension, specifically created to show longer versions of some of the main channel videos, but also for other videos that divert slightly from the main channel's topic, which is mainly car diy.

I personally think thing the E38 looks better than the E39.
Understated yet elegant and well proportioned lines. The same can't be said about its great grandchild

I just watched a debate called the People vs the Car, from 1971, on the BBC Archive YT channel. A interesting debate on a matter that is still relevant today. Also, great backdrop where guests and audience are sitting on some lovely motors. Video link in comments:

Saw that same car at Hampton Court back in 2018. Love it

And also door mirrors moved to the corner of the doors and an improvement to the ventilation system. In fairness, I think the bonnet/grille arrangement on the facelift is better executed and more elegant compared to the pre-facelift like mine

I think it's time for Starmer take a leaf of Hugh Grant's speech in Love Actually and deliver the same message

My fellow youtuber, Simon Monks from the channel Lot76 Cars, is selling his fabulous 2002 BMW 525i SE Auto. It has 13 months MOT with no advisories, great service history and it is in lovely condition.
