Our study calls for considering immigrants' own experiences when monitoring their lives. We tend to have a rather narrow understanding of 'integration', neglecting immigrants' own experiences and instead focusing on their (economic) performance and closing "the gap" to the resident population.

(3/3): The stronger reactions are not migration-specific but shaped by immigrants' educational and social background. Our study thus informs the explanation of broader sociological patterns at the intersection of education and subjective well-being.

(2/3): Ethno-racial background does not make a difference: Reactions are similarly strong whether or not immigrants stand out visibly or culturally as foreigners.

For partnered individuals, SWB-increases systematically depend on their influence on the migration decision. We find smallest increases for trailing partners & highest increases for leading partners. SWB of #singles increased even more. 2/2
