Genome Prairie is proud to announce two new eDNA Surveillance projects, "One Health" and "PrairieDNA." Each project recognizes the role eDNA will play as a genomics tool to support human and environmental health now and the future.

Genome Prairie announced today that two new projects focused on environmental DNA surveillance have been approved for $855,000 in federal funding via Genome Canada. These two projects, based out of the University of Saskatchewan, the University of Regina, and the University of Manitoba, are focused on understanding the genetic material of organisms found in the environment, including land, air and water. This information helps researchers and scientists to identify and monitor species, track biodiversity, and study ecosystems. One project, “One Health Surveillance for Antimicrobial Resistance and Emerging Pathogens by Targeted Metagenomics at Human-Livestock-Environment Interfaces” (One Health), will be based out of the University of Regina. This project aims to detect the presence of human and livestock pathogens while monitoring the presence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the environment.

With a mix of sadness and celebration, today we're announcing the retirement of Patrick Pitka as Genome Prairie's CFO. Pat joined us in 2006 - his leadership was invaluable in our success.

To Pat, one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, we wish you and Karen the best in your golden years.

Great news from Churchill, Manitoba. The Ocean-Sea Ice Mesocosm (OSIM) is producing its first ice at the Churchill Marine Observatory! This marks a huge step for the GENICE II oil spill remediation project. Much thanks to project co-lead Dr. Eric Collins for sending us the cool icy photo. #genomics
