Gene was a firm believer that “black tie” meant black tie. I thought he looked brilliant in it. Generally, our life was quite private and informal. But this gives you a taste of Gene’s public look. For me, the charm in his slight smile is hard to resist.

I love when I learn new things about Gene’s experiences. This photo was taken in 1970, when Gene visited the National Film Archive at the Roundhouse in London to see “Cinema city: an exhibition of 75 years of moving pictures.” Gene’s response is very Gene.

I wish I had this trunk full of shoes! I do have one pair of his dancing shoes (the moccasins from An American in Paris that I just purchased at auction). Sadly, the tap shoes went in Gene’s house fire in 1983.
