A6: and to add to your great answer: What 'shape' of graduate are we aiming for? What do we want them to gain from the programme? And also for vocational programmes: what real skills/knowledge will our graduates need in the real world? #LTHEchat

A5: Academics who have little interest in pedagogy and psychology will play down delivery of material which is not core to the subject area. In fact sometimes they claim to have all the study tools necessary and will hand these, and no other, to their students because "it worked for me" #LTHEchat

A4: Some of the techniques mentioned target memorisation for exams. For coursework based assessment, we focus instead on effective working practices. If the coursework is well designed, then carrying it out will provide the "study" needed to internalize the "knowledge". Learning by doing. #LTHEchat

A2: So right! But young people are often encouraged by parents/ carers to adopt ineffective study activities. #LTHEchat

A2: See @patricia-xavier.bsky.social 's second post for A1! Students think study skills are low level skills. #LTHEchat.

A1: Some students focus so much on study skills that THOSE skills become more important than the subject matter. At least that was my experience when I was a student: fellow students who seemed to be using study skills to "game" the system AND were highly successful. #LTHEchat
