A lipstick ad, then.

DHH’s point is that this particular ad clearly wasn’t meant to sell to Danes in Copenhagen: its purpose seemed to be representation of different body types over “oppressive” beauty ideals, but beauty ideals are net good.

And my point is that that idea isn’t harmful or toxic.

This particular ad was cited by DHH because it was on a prominent billboard in Copenhagen, so the target audience would be the average Copenhagen consumer’s dream and ideal, but it’s obviously not.

After digging into the sources you link to, DHH’s “harmful and toxic ideas” seem pretty reasonable to me.

Like, yeah, an obese underwear model does seem grotesque to me in the same way someone with rotten teeth in a toothpaste ad would seem grotesque.

What’s harmful or toxic about that idea?

Your IKEA product name is your name spelled backwards with an umlaut.

Hej, I’m Näitsirhc, a modular office shelving system.

Overall votes look way down from 2020 but I think part of that is that some states are still tallying?

That guy's name? René Magritte. What was the name of that pipe operator library for R? `magrittr`.C'est nest pas une pipe.

7/? The Belgian guy who painted it also painted floating hat paintings. He had a pretty tragic life. A year after painting the not-pipe he got a job in advertising to earn enough money to live. His art only really entered the mainstream around 1965, just two years before his death.

6/? It's an absurdist image and caption that feels like it may have been made and posted on reddit last week but it was painted before we'd invented FM radios!

5/? The most emblematic piece from this period is one you've probably seen before (not least of which because I posted it at the start of this thread)—The Treachery of Images. It depicts a pipe hovering above the words "Ceci n'est pas une pipe" (french for "this is not a pipe").
May 6, 2023 at 5:52 PM
4/? Now that cameras exist the art world has been going through a bit of a crisis trying to figure out what the point of art is now that technology has made it so any Joe with $4 (~$50 in 2022 dollars) and a working finger could surpass the realism of the great masters.
May 6, 2023 at 5:50 PM
3/? Why? What the heck does `magrittr` stand for? LET'S FIND OUT TOGETHERThe year is 1929 and the surrealism cultural movement is nearing it's second of what would become four decade artistic reign.
May 6, 2023 at 5:49 PM
2/? Instead of using the literal pipe character `|` for the pipe operator R uses `%>%` for no good reason at all.

The library you need to import to be able to use the pipe operator? Maybe something like `pipe`? You're not thinking in R yet my friend: it's called `magrittr`.
May 6, 2023 at 5:47 PM
1/? R is a weird language but it has a few incredible and hilarious gems. Come with me on my journey of the past half hour that will include a brief summary of the surrealism movement.First off, Instead of using `=` R uses `<-` because it... points in the direction that data is flowing?

It feels like it shouldn't work but it feels REAL GOOD and lots of people have been privately messaging it daily.

How to get a cool domain name handle like mine: 0) have a regular Bluesky account like @jack.bsky.social, 1) log into staging.bsky.app from a computer, 2) click on ⚙️ Settings, 3) click "Change my handle", 4) click "I have my own domain", 5) add the DNS record, 6) bask in feelings of superiority
