‘Vexatious’ says, we’re not listening. We don’t believe you. You’re making it up to annoy us.

And isn’t this exactly what parents are complaining about? For years, no matter what they and their children said, the answer was ‘We’re not listening, because the problem is you’. 9/

Unfortunately, observing what's improving in SEND doesn't have much viral appeal. Meanwhile, I witnessed Jimmy Carr tell packed Cliffs Theatre "noone was autistic" when he was at school, and that we are medicalising kids who are just geeks.

There's a long way to go.

To be clear, that's not just my child's school but a pilot project in schools across Essex. The 3rd sector shouldn't be in the position of trying to sort out cultural attitudes and treatment of SEND across education, but from what I've seen so far I do believe their contribution will be helpful.

Their publication "supporting your neurodiverse child" has really helped us and other families we know. The other facilities from the organisation coming into my youngest school to garner parent views and supoort the school to address concerns. They also provide bespoke school training (dfe funded)

Well exactly, proof is in the pudding. Even of an assessment is completed, the implementation of its findings is another matter altogether. We have been personally positively impacted by 2 actions taken by Essex Family Forum who work with (but not for) the council....

Apparently 20 new ed psychs - friend says a dramatic change won't be seen in the data just yet, but people applying now will see a significantly shorter wait time. No personal experience from me, both my girls are on One Plans... only time will tell if that's enough

Ah, interesting thing on this... friend on Facebook who works for ECC responded to me posting this article. I asked her for a link summarising the improvements. At least there has been a response... hope the effort is sustained! www.essex.gov.uk/news/2024/es...

Don't we all! I have been trying to piece together the ideology they are using as their jumping off point... not always easy to untangle from what I take to be astute moves to nudge the narrative (eg on attendance) but I have seen some good indicators which give me hope.

Hi Ashleigh, this is something I think my year 10 daughter would enjoy and benefit from. I expect her school to agree it would be very beneficial. I am wondering whether parents can purchase a place in the course for individuals if a school is not in the position to do so?
