Sorry I can't come to work today, it's too cold for molecules to move.

Phil Collins vibe

Six Flags parks have a mixed reputation, but I don't think I could have wished for a nicer day. Six Flags New England was cozy, the staff were nice and the standout rides were absolutely fantastic. A quality regional park with some world-class rides that were willing to exceed my expectations.

It was getting late and much more busy. We gave Wicked Cylone another go and then headed for the exit, passing by the classic carousel.

Mother, can we go to the Efteling? No, we have an Efteling at home.

Some nice landscaping at the bottom of the Star Flyer. It isn't all asphalt here.
August 23, 2025 at 6:14 PM
Another one I couldn't miss was the Star Flyer. I always love these. This one offered great views of the park, the Connecticut river, and the nearby city of Springfield! We waited quite a while for this, though.

This classic Scrambler is one of them. They are becoming rare, and this one looks exactly like they did in Roller Coaster Tycoon! If I had found this ride at a fair and paid three bucks to ride, I'd say I'd have gotten my money's worth.

Apart from coasters, there are some flat rides I just can't resist.

Unfortunately, this involved a Vekoma Boomerang. I've gone on record saying I generally enjoy these. Flashback was here to show me just how bad this model can get.

At this point in the day, things were beginning to take a bit of a turn. Although it was Monday, bigger crowds were coming in, and fatigue was beginning to hit. Nevertheless, we had more to do.

New England's Batman is still a perfectly decent coaster, smooth and good at what it does. Plus, B&M coasters always look great! Gotta love those interlocking corkscrews. A good third place in the park.
August 23, 2025 at 6:14 PM
Earlier this year in Spain, I've ridden a version of the classic inverted Batman coaster, as well as a full size B&M floorless coaster. I must say, this Batman compares unfavourably to either of them.
August 23, 2025 at 6:14 PM
A compact, intense B&M coaster with five loopings: must be Batman! Only the New England version is a floorless sit-down coaster, rather than the more common inverted Batman clone.
August 23, 2025 at 6:14 PM
There was something open on this side of the park that was worth my time, though.

Speaking of evil, the Vekoma SLC is operating! This one's named after the Riddler, completing Batman's rogues' gallery. I didn't ride it. It had an hour long wait on one train. This one has new trains, so I imagine it'll be reasonably decent, but I've ridden more than enough SLC's.
August 23, 2025 at 6:14 PM
The Harley Quinn frisbee also wasn't operating. I used to love rides like these, but over the years I've lost my stomach for them. I probably still would have tried it. Maybe a blessing in disguise? No wonder these rides are all named after bad guys.

A couple of bummers as we approached the South end of the park. This S&S 4D coaster, Joker, was showing no signs of life. These are common across parks in the States, but none have made it to Europe. I'd like to know what a 4D coaster with hair on would be like. No luck here, the Joker got away.

Here's something I purely rode for the credit, though. Gotham City whatever. It's another wild mouse. I don't hate wild meeces, but something about the Maurer ones is particularly unpleasant to me. Still not the worst wild mouse in the world, that distinction belongs to Viking at Energylandia!
August 23, 2025 at 6:14 PM
For some reason, I kept getting distracted as I tried to take photos of the Zierer. I swear these junior coasters are more than just credits to me!
August 23, 2025 at 6:14 PM
Catwoman's Whip is the Zierer Tivoli Large junior coaster. As I said elsewhere, I have some leftover warm feelings towards this layout... but nostalgia only gets you so far with me.

I'm sorry some coaster fans have gotten so blasé about Superman. The restraint wasn't a bother to me at all. In fact, I thought Wicked Cylone was a much worse offender in that regard. New Englanders can be proud of this one.
August 23, 2025 at 6:14 PM
Smooth as a dream, filled with airtime and with a never-ending and varied layout that has some of the same satisfying progression of elements that Goliath has, only more effective. Some tunnels to put it over the top. Everything I want in a hypercoaster. Intamin make it look so easy!
August 23, 2025 at 6:14 PM
The truth is: I loved Superman. After our first ride (in the front row) I was already contemplating a top five spot. It ended up in my top three, beating out all other Intamin coasters on my list.
August 23, 2025 at 6:14 PM
In later years, public opinion on Superman began to go downhill. It was still respected for its layout, but after an accident it needed to be given heavier restraints, which soured many people on the ride. What would my response to Superman be?
