42. Frankenstein (2025)
very beautiful but somewhat toothless. should've let the Creature be morally grey and kill people. not a bad movie but makes me wonder if GdT is going the same way Wes Anderson did. more: gellavonhamster.tumblr.com/post/8004000...
I am all in a sea of wonders
Finally saw Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein. I think I have to begin by saying that, while I recognize Frankenstein the novel as a great and important work, I've always been rather indifferent to.....

52. Moll Flanders by Daniel Defoe
I <3 women's wrongs (except for constantly abandoning all your children, but from the Doylist perspective the narrative really requires it). lots of fun if you're like me and read 18th century novels for fun.

51. A True Novel by Minae Mizumura
a retelling of Wuthering Heights set in the 20th century Japan, with enough similarities to make you go "oh! I recognize that!" & enough differences to surprise you. an exploration of nostalgia, race & class. above all - superb writing. loved it

41. Ladyhawke (1985)
rewatched it for fic writing reasons and actually enjoyed it much more this time around - I remember thinking it was rather dragged-out, but no such impression this time. and the soundtrack is so good!

50. One Piece novel A by Shou Hinata and Tatsuya Hamazaki
part 1 is quite nice, and Masked Deuce is channeling Ishmael and similar classic lit (gay) narrators. part 2 is like 1/4 lore drop and for the most part really boring. more here: gellavonhamster.tumblr.com/post/7983151...

49. The Bird's Nest by Shirley Jackson
no one does it like Shirley Jackson. no one. I had mixed feelings about the ending at first, but now I've slept on it and think it's very creepy and the tiniest bit hopeful. my favourite personality is Betsy btw

40. Amphibian Man / Человек-амфибия (1962)
I have never seen this one before somehow. very romantic, and the main cast is incredibly beautiful

39. Carol (2015)
overall I liked the book better, though I think some changes were a good idea. a beautiful film but, as I've always imagined, not quite for me
