They need your ear and support
So, your friend just confided to you that they have been thinking about suicide. STOP EVERYTHING. First, sharing something of this nature is more intimate and trusting than sex with a beloved partner. DON'T react. DON'T recoil. DON'T judge or lament or give them advice. DON'T try to "cheer them up." Your friend bridged the Grand Canyon to talk to you about this, be humbled, it took a lot of strength; they are STRONG. Chances are that they've been strong for too long.
