The Battle Speed setting literally just doesn't work in the original SFC/SNES version either. It's always at the slowest speed regardless of what you pick in the options menu

I miss when games like RW could exist.
The DS and 3DS were the undisputed king of low-budget, experimental sequels/spinoffs. Think about how many Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest spinoffs we got on those two consoles.
Anyway, RW is awesome and Vaan is a legitimately great character.

Itoi's writings (of which there are many, the man is mainly a writer) make it clear that he has very progressive politics. He's a really cool guy, I wish people knew more about him than just the MOTHER series.

I don't know where you're getting this idea that FE12 failed in Japan. It sold well and reviewed well. The decision not to localize it was because Nintendo believed it wasn't worth the money and effort to localize a dialogue-heavy game that would not sell well overseas.

The craziest part is definitely not bringing back Zexion and Lexaeus, who were the Org loyalists actively trying to sniff out traitors during CoM.

Furthermore, FE12 did not "bomb" by any measure. It actually sold more copies than the previous game in the series at the time. The reason why FE12 was not localized was because the FE series hadn't performed well *outside* of Japan.

Most of the game mechanics that made Awakening a huge hit with those who hadn't paid attention to FE before were introduced in FE12: The barracks, Casual Mode, and a customizable Avatar all debuted in FE12. Awakening inherited those elements, but actually had decent marketing.

The map design in the game is really good but the enemies are ridiculously weak. If the game ever gets a remake (doubtful) I hope they make the enemies stronger, because the second half of the game can basically be done on autopilot
