He/Him. Professor of SEA Studies at UCLA; voracious reader; writing a YA novel on climate change anxiety; frequently outraged activist. 🏳️‍🌈 ally. Opinions my own.
So, submitting a panel proposal to the @asianstudies.org website only to be confronted with a participant ethnicity drop-down menu that looks like this. My panel, with no less than three SOUTHEAST Asians once again falls between the cracks. Do better AAS! (Also, are any of these even "ethnicities"?)

Thinking we need more Wanted Posters for the lineup of villains serving this administration. Here's a modest start.

Just asked to pick a license option for my 800 word book review for the American Historical Review. My options were "Standard" which costs $0.00, or "Open Access" which costs $4,620. How is that even a choice? Also, how would my tiny review remotely be worth $4,620 . . .?

I see that my local US post office is flying the flag at half mast. Presumably to commemorate the recent demise of American Democracy?

Two hundred people showed up for this @teslatakedown.com in Palo Alto this afternoon. Lots of great energy and signs expressing our anger. Everyone I talked to is in it for the long haul. Let’s see if we can drive Tesla stock value to $0 . . .

Love this blandly anodyne email from the UC President on the recent Dept. of Ed. "Dear Colleague" letter. The letter is an embarrassing screed of half-truths, incoherence, and illogical assertions and our university leadership is "assessing its impacts" instead of calling it out. Lovely.

CDC has been ordered to restore some LGBTQ info pages, but they now include this insane disclaimer, mixing irrational petulance with wildly unscientific claims. Unreal . . .

Great turnout at a very cold Boston rally today to save democracy and speak out against so many injustices.

Doing this every day (see below); happy to see the WH contact form is finally back in operation and used it to send a scathing (and at times highly profane) email telling him exactly what I think of him, his intellect, and his policies . . .

Meeting with Sen. Alex Padilla's (CA) staff this morning, and letting them know that we expect him to step up and push back against Trump's agenda, and to make it clear that Elon Musk cannot be allowed to interfere with any government operations.

Very happy to see that students from my nearby high school here in LA have walked out of class to stand up for themselves and their families in defiance of Trump's cruel anti-immigration actions.

And maybe more plain old elephants too? Here’s one with my daughter in Laos in 2017.
