My own gratification aside, I think it's important for young people to see a good example being set. As my children enter adulthood, I'm often frustrated that they don't have more role models demonstrating behaviors that I think are laudable… like reading things made of paper

I do hope the recovery goes well.
In one of my first jobs I was shown the tape archives of environmental data that had been collected since 1970. It cost millions to collect and was irreplaceable, yet the oxide layer was flaking off the tapes

How do you become friends with a politician?
Find one whose policies are about individuals in the community (e.g. one of Spanberger's earliest policies was on healthcare affordability). Someone who is there to help others. Then you show up and help. People appreciate it when you put in some effort

Same. However, most keyboard setups don't make emdashes easy to access, and I end up making inappropriate use of hyphens - not that people usually notice.

Outside of coding, I don't think I've used a semicolon for about 40 years. I find it ironic that LLMs would have led me to use them again, despite LLMs not making much use of this punctuation themselves

A day later the tracking hadn’t updated. I wrote to the embassy to assure them that the paperwork was on the way & provide the tracking info. They responded to say the tracking data is incorrect and the paperwork has already arrived.
Another day later, I checked again and it still hasn’t changed 🙄
