This is misleading as you are conflating two different things. Trade negotiations are often messy and require difficult compromises that ideally we wouldn't have to make. The same with government spending decisions.

Surely it's a numbers game. If 50 are claiming we can be as generous as we like, if 50 million are the country is bankrupt, at some point between those two though choices have to start being made especially if we want / need to spend on other things.
