I agree. I'd prefer a movie have a good storyline and I'd much rather it be suspenseful than "scary". I'm also not a huge slasher movie fan or over the top sexual violence. That shits just cheap

That's all by design. It's easier to control people in mass if they're uneducated. Education is now seen as feminine and we all know people are terrified of being seen as a sub-class of people.
