I probably swear at the #duolingo owl more than necessary, but it really was bullshit to swap out the Brazilian Portuguese course while I was in the last unit, and then drop me back in the same numerical unit with no catch-up lesson for words I've never seen before. What, do I start over? Give up?

The analysis going around, showing how LLM-generated code, even code adjacent to security, fails the vibe-coder.

It's a interesting test. Will an LLM, prompted as if by a non-coder, bring up adjacent concerns and prompt the user back to consider more risks?

Vibecoding is fast, but it is secure? We tested current state of the art LLM models against a common security task, namely the MFA implemented in your applications.

Weirdest thing about this week's 2-minutes-hate target is seeing how many people refer to Ed Zitron as a "reporter", or his rants as "reporting".

Goddamn it. I like waffles. Fucking nazis, fucking corrupting everything good into a fucking dog whistle.

What goes with waffles? Chicken. What are the collaborators taking a brave stance to ensure the poor bullied transphobes don't get their feelings hurt? Chicken.

Well, shit. I was approaching the end of the Portuguese #duolingo track, which ends a bit short. Today they launched a new longer version, which is good. But they copied my progress over, but not my 'learned words' so there's a ton of new words thrown at me with zero prep. Might be time to quit.

"You have two choices, atproto which will be amazing someday if you stick around to see it and Bluesky doesn't E-E-E their own product, or you can go to a commercial platform. There are definitely no other choices."
i suspect Recent Events will lead to more people organising to build more projects like blacksky

but if you leave bluesky for a non-atproto alternative? we're back to square one

bluesky has been built and designed to solve EXACTLY the problem we're having right now

this is NOT yet another tumblr

It's time for the tech industry to accept the MacBook Pro is no longer worthy of being the default developer machine. Ten years ago, the hardware was decent, so you could install Linux and have a good DX. Now the software and hardware both suck and Linux isn't a serious option.

The main difference between Clippy and "AI": Clippy wasn't the product. It was a tool to help you learn a real, useful product. Clippy had no price tag.

"AI" is absolutely a product, and you are expected to pay for it as such, despite lousy results in all but the narrowest, well-defined cases.

CenturyLink, after being fine for the last five years (since the upgrade to Fiber), completely shat the bed over the weekend. Repair line was closed for the weekend, and online support staff were instructed to require upgrading the service, which would take two weeks for a technician to perform.

Figma. Stitch. Hex.

They're not even selling shovels and picks anymore, they're trying as hard as they can to create and profit from a whole new market for the useless garbage pulled out of the ground. Like if gold were an alien concept in 1849 and nobody wanted it.

99% certain that #TaxBit, or its new owner #CashApp, was either popped recently or otherwise leaked private email data. My single-use email account for them is suddenly getting scam emails.

It's a little disheartening when you finally get a non-automated response from a company you've shotgunned your resume to, and when you search bsky for them you find only referral codes, a CFPB case and how turned a $2.1B valuation into a $1B valuation in three years.

And a Mr Beast promo.

Bird flu made the jump from birds to cows. And bird flu is present in milk, unless you pasteurize it carefully. And the unelected incel squad is trying to decimate (or more) every gov't agency, including the USDA.

I feel like these problems may be self-correcting.

Abruptly ending de minimis is myopic and not in executive power, but also in direct conflict with two of the admin goals. Either CBP triples in workforce (after a cage deathmatch with Musk), or it needs to process every package from China in seconds, making it easier to get fentanyl through.

The problem is less that #CoPilot chokes on "gender" and "trans" (even as substrings), it's that this was reported over a year ago and GitHub decided to press on with the public release.

It reveals the bald-faced scam of AI: it's not for the user, it's for the investor.

Copilot stops working on `gender` related subjects · community · Discussion #72603
As some people already mentioned here or here, Copilot purposely stops working on code that contains hardcoded banned words from Github, such as gender or sex. I am labelling this as a bug because ...

Comparing #Deepseek to #ChatGPT (to write cover letter drafts based on resume and job desc) and Deepseek is faster, follows instructions, produces better results (needing minor edits instead of complete rewrites) and reads the entire resume...

Lots of hyperbole today, but #OpenAI is doomed.

I've been getting an inordinate amount of rejections to job applications this round, so I decided to see what my resume looks like to an "AI". Turns out, ChatGPT can't parse my experience out of resume. I think hiring managers are passing me over because they don't see my 2 decades of history.

I put up some extremely cheap foam panels in my office. I'm not sure they're intended to be for audio conditioning, but they're certainly doing the job. The noise floor is lower to an obvious extent (not bouncing desktop fan noises back at me) and the room even feels just a bit smaller.

#Starship second booster catch is still impressive. A powerful example of what great engineers can do when a billionaire gives them tons of money before fucking off to spend all his time playing politics and pretending to play videogames.

The Project Zomboid longplay series is approaching something like a regular schedule, maybe.

In this episode, Bill discovers just how easy it is to get free meat from the road - sometimes, it delivers itself!
