Kein Mitgefühl ;-) Hier in Kanada haben wir seit zwei Wochen Schnee.

Last night I slept uncharacteristically poorly as I was awoken by constant nightmares. Reading Victoria Giuffre’s story was traumatic and I’m a psychologist! These child victims deserve justice and other children deserve protection from such abuse! It’s on us to act.

Wonderful fall day in eastern Ontario! Fall is my favourite season!

Lake Huron where it meets the St. Clair River. Looking out over the water brings feelings of peace. Schönen Tag Dir.

I complain that I always walk in the same conservationist area 200 m from our home. Boring until it is perfect :-)

The Blue Water Bridge has linked Point Edward, Ontario to Port Huron, Michigan since 1938. My first photo shows the Canadian side and the second shows the US side. Both sides are flying a Canadian flag and a US flag. Why are right wing politicians seeking to destroy our friendship?

After living in Kingston for decades, we finally visited Bellevue House. Canada’s first Prime Minister, Sir John A. MacDonald, lived here in 1848. Don't you just love that green bathtub? BTW Shout out to Parks Canada for their balanced treatment of Sir John A.’s legacy.

Today we had a spectacular boat tour of Lake Maligne in the Jasper area. The drive back to the hotel was complicated by two groups of Albertans who insisted on crossing the highway without following the traffic rules 😂 😂 😂

We are driving through the Rocky Mountains. Here are iconic pictures of Lake Louise, Lake Peyto, Athabasca Glacier and Columbia Icefields Parkway. They do not do justice to the majesty of the mountains nor do they illustrate the obvious climate change effects we see since we were here 40 years ago.

Happy Canada Day! Proud to be a Canadian during this unsettling political time. Genuinely hope that our Canadian leaders can contribute positively on the world stage. Bonne fête du Canada.

Be sure to find some time today to stop and smell the roses.

Enjoyed a peaceful walk along Lake Ontario today. It’s important for our mental health to take time away from this political chaos.

Flanders Fields were eerily silent today. 10 million died in WW1, 500,000 in the Ypres area plus another 500,000 were wounded there. We saw memorials, museums, books, each decrying the uselessness of war. In another context, I read about the war in Ukraine. Seems humanity has learned nothing.

The serenity and beauty of Keukenhof Gardens in the spring is not to be underestimated. Being there is an antidote to today’s unsettling political climate.

It’s a joy to be back in Amsterdam, one of my favourite cities! It’s also a joy to exchange the 0 temperatures and freezing rain in Eastern Ontario for spring in this beautiful city.

In these unsettling political times, a reminder to step towards the light. Brighter days lie ahead if we keep our focus on what is just and right.

Spring is in the air in Eastern Ontario. Goodness knows we Canadians need some positivity right now. Elbows up!
