Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) Feb 2025. I had the pleasure of a day in North Donegal watching Egrets close to Irelands most northern point. It is amazing that I expect to see them there, as 30 years ago they were a rarity from warmer climes to the south. They first bred in Ireland in 1997.

Twite (Linaria flavirostris) North Antrim. Lovely to see a few of these scarce finches recently. They are regular winter visitors and a very rare breeding speces in North Antrim. Numbers appear to be down this winter sadly. #birds #nature #wildlife @rspb.bsky.social @ulsterwildlife.bsky.social

Grey Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) - Co. Antrim - Jan 25. Love or hate them, they're here and don't seem to be going anytime soon. It take's a lot of effort by volunteers like the Glens Red Squirrel Group to keep them out of the remaining red squirrel strongholds. @ulsterwildlife.bsky.social

Brambling (Fringilla montifringilla) N.Antrim,Jan25. After a couple of attempts & quite a few hours in the hide I finally managed some new Brambling images. These stunning finches appear in small numbers most winters in Ireland. #nature #wildlife #birds @rspb.bsky.social @ulsterwildlife.bsky.social

Great Crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus)/ Foitheach mór - County Antrim - January 2025. A species I rarely see in the home patch, so had to travel further south in the County for this image. It is already beginning to moult into it's breeding finery. @ulsterwildlife.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social

Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs) N. Antrim, January 2025. Taken on a recent walk. The UK Chaffinch population declined by almost a third in the eleven years to 2018. Research has linked this decline to the disease Trichomonosis. #birds #nature #wildlife @ulsterwildlife.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social

Rock Pipit (Anthus petrosus) on the Beach. North Antrim, January 2025. A relatively common bird along the local coast. On Saturday they were feeding on beach in the aftermath of Storm Éowyn. @ulsterwildlife.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social #birds #nature #wildlife

Sanderling (Calidris alba) - North Antrim - January 2025. On the local beach between the storms. To much disturbance on the beach to get close to this bird, but lovely to see it against the colourful stones on the beach. @rspb.bsky.social @ulsterwildlife.bsky.social #nature #wildlife #birds

Ross's Gull (Rhodostethia rosea) - County Down, January 2012. I have been lucky to see two of these rare vagrants from the high Arctic in Ireland, over the years. The first was at Bullock Harbour, Dublin in 1997. I would love to see another one soon. #irishrarebirds #birds #nature #wildlife

Red-necked Grebe - (Podiceps grisegena) - Ballycastle, January 2010. A chance to check through old hard drives and rework some favourites, like this one from January 2010. A rare chance to photograph this scarce bird. @ulsterwildlife.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social
