Group 1 did a great job on science ethics! Looking forward to group 2s on science coms. Good focus question “what is the ‘effective’ in effective science communication?”

Hi! Teacher and researcher. PhD Student in Active Learning Pedagogy at the University of Toronto. Working with teacher educators to improve instruction and make more effective future teachers (also the random Physics professor 🤷‍♂️). Teacher of physics, bio, and chemistry in high schools.

Apache Helicopter parent. What a joy 🙄

Sorry you had to deal with it. May I suggest a spray bottle for next time?

Bad parent 💦

😂

I feel you. Former teacher in Alberta. Lots of not-so-friendly-towards-the-gays folks there too. Very irritating to be surrounded by. Though I’d argue Utah is a whole new level. I’ve some Mormons in my extended family… it can be awkward.

For sure! I just need to check myself before I wreck myself sometimes, so I figured I’d offer the same. It super frustrating when parents don’t see what happens day to day and then accuse us of failures. I do question her ambivalence to the kids distress. Like… weirdly not supportive.

I mean… do you have a bias because you disagree? Not an accusation, just a thought. There were certainly students that I had to check myself on when I found their opinions to be disagreeable.

Totally! Failure is the best teacher 😊

This past week I got to go with the Chem class to the ROM (where they investigated the chemistry and history of pigments), the Play Class played “The Fish Game” to learn about the tragedy of the commons, and the Phys Class explored Gender and the Nature of Science. Been a busy week 😮‍💨😏 #edusky
