so the specific kind of horror of hearing wails, the hanging tree being an omen, hearing voices in the dark being mimics like you said. it all just makes a lot of sense

so i live in d12 area (like literally my dads hometown was where they filmed those scenes) & this makes so much sense. a lot of the lore or superstitions here are a mix of all the immigrants stories esp since our mountains are the same as ireland/scotlands so banshees and stories like that spread
