Well... time to finally cancel the remainder of my BBC podcast subscriptions :(

It's a shame - some of them were actually still managing to hold out against the assault on free speech.

The notion of having a balanced view of the world whilst consuming only one news source is always going to be a bit of a fallacy, regardless of the news source.

And social media as a source of news is just a dumpster fire. Unfortunately, that leaves us having to make an effort.

Most people won't.

Those are definitely some lovely book cases in the background :)

Yeah - it's definitely one of those products that stretches the term AI a bit. It's a spelling and grammar checker (a pretty decent one, on the whole), but I wouldn't call it any more AI than any other spelling and grammar checker.

Welcome to Bluesky and #isitOK that Musk now has a toy chainsaw?

The problem is (and largely always has been) that the ownership model for the majority of the press means that isn't in their own interest.

The frustrating thing is when the bits of the press not owned by the super-rich follow suit like they're part of some sort of herd :(

A second monitor is such a game-changer. About 18 years ago, I was working in an IT department where they were arguing against letting staff have second monitors (for cost) - that feels so regressive, now.

You might want to install PowerToys from Microsoft. It's a free suite of tools and has one that shows you where the mouse pointer is if you double-press CTRL :)

I feel that there are a lot of things that affect what might be a useful paradigm for how we play TTRPGs. System, group preferences, GM approach and more.

To focus in on one paradigm (such as storytelling) is a bit of disservice to something as broad as TTRPGs can be.

Well - hello there :)

I believe I am a corpie :)

Yeah - EVE is a bit of a monolith given how long it's been going :) That said - it means that there's probably something in there for everyone, if you can find the stuff that works for you :)

I guess that if you own something like that, you're gonna want to fly it :)

Exploring is one of my favourite activities in EVE :)

Oh - and a big positive I forgot (probably not the only one):

6. Weapon masteries. Choice of weapon(s) now feels more meaningful for martial classes.

3. Ability modifiers based on background. This is sort of double-edged. I like that backgrounds have more emphasis on them now but... the notion that your average goliath is as strong as the average gnome? A bit weird.

2. All classes get 4 subclasses. This feels fine for classes where the broad strokes of their subclasses seem to cover all the bases. For wizards where only half of the schools of magic are covered? Less so.

And now the less positive (IMHO) changes.

1. All subclasses begin at level 3. This feels like it is more intuitive for newer players. I can't help thinking that they were at different levels in 2014 for a good reason. It kind of feels like Clerics, for instance, are a bit adrift intially.

5. Optional rules. Optional rules are now pretty much all in the DMG with the PHB containing just core rules.
November 20, 2024 at 9:26 AM
3. Balancing. Everything feels better balanced. Not perfect but certainly better.
4. Character creation options. It feels like there are more options available at level one (mainly due to strengthened backgrounds and origin feats).

And now I've figured out how to thread. Let's talk about more on what I find positive and less positive about 2024.

1. The art. A lot of people won't care, but I love the new art.
2. Organization. The indexes are useful, the appendices are now useful. Everything is ordered better.
