The clouds lifting briefly to reveal the stunning Mt Kazbek, was a perfect end to a long (and fascinating) day and a stunning visit to #Georgia.

An absolutely fascinating presentation from Kristina Meyer from Charité on the overlaps of PTSD and psychosis, via perceptual changes… and seeing faces in noise patterns

Love this! Some of my fondest memories as an undergrad are from the Koestler Parapsychology Unit at Edinburgh Uni - creative, fascinating studies designed and conducted with enormous methodological rigour, with some of the fundamental aspects of being human at the very centre.

Superb #ukpts2025 conference from @ukpts.bsky.social in Leeds this week. Brilliant when, despite children & young people not being my particular area of focus, the speakers are genuinely inspiring and I leave with plenty of takeaways for my own work.

Really enjoyed the first Bites session from @ukpts.bsky.social from @cathycreswell.bsky.social. As well as being fascinating, I took away a lot on how to create co-produced mental health interventions that may actually be ecologically useful ‘in the wild’ with respect to our ongoing work.

Pleased our review into treatments for PTSD in women veterans resulting from military sexual trauma is now out.

I’m aware a lot of great work is/has been conducted since our review ended a while back - all with improved support & treatment for those in need it at the core

Evidence-based treatments for PTSD symptoms resulting from military sexual trauma in women Veterans: A systematic review | Journal of Military, Veteran and Family Health
LAY SUMMARY Military sexual trauma (MST) includes experiences of sexual harassment and assault. It is widespread across militaries and disproportionately affects women. Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is one of the most frequent outcomes of experiencing MST. However, as Veterans can often respond differently from civilians to psychological treatments, this study aimed to review the literature that exists on treatment for PTSD resulting from MST specifically in women Veterans. Trauma-focused therapies were found to have the best quality evidence base, in particular, cognitive processing therapy (CPT). Emerging evidence was found for Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) to reduce PTSD symptoms. It should be noted trauma-focused therapies had the highest patient dropout rates, and the definition of MST was inconsistent across studies.

Now I mentally gallivant round the place conducting translational and applied research into psychological trauma, interventions, and coping.
