Memory
For a dancer, every memory is "muscle memory."

The physiological feat is astounding, but the substance of his speech is the most important thing that came out of this.
"The catch is that in order to get attention, you have to be terrible. You have to lie or embrace evil. In the attention economy there is enormous demand for civic blasphemy. What’s hard is getting attention for messages about truth, or virtue, or love."
Why Cory Booker’s Speech Matters
Booker didn’t “accomplish” anything. He was a voice of one crying in the wilderness. And that’s how you build a dissident movement: with simple acts of witness.

Ashevillians are pretty great.
Nice turnout again in Asheville today (and some good signs)

An NPR review of new data added to DOGE's "wall of receipts" finds the group quietly changed previous errors, added new ones and still has little verified savings to show for its work.

Medicaid is not for sale.
NASA is not for sale.
The Post Office is not for sale.
America is not for sale.

We have an obligation to resist kings. We outnumber them. And they can be overwhelmed.

If you needed one more bit of evidence of his blatant hypocrisy (or reason to feel sick with anger about what your tax dollars are paying for):

Donald Trump Has Already Spent $10.7 Million Of Taxpayer Money Playing Golf
Somehow, the expense has flown under the radar of the waste, fraud and abuse experts at DOGE.

While Trump appoints 13 billionaires to his cabinet and Musk, Bezos and Zuckerberg see their wealth increase by $217 billion since the election, 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, 25% of seniors live on $15g or less and millions cannot afford rent.

SAY NO TO OLIGARCHY.

The wise Allen
I drew this 8 years ago, it is just way too prescient, except for the fact that Elon MuskRat is not included. Authoritarian rule is here folks, only 3+ weeks in, so much more is going to unfold and engulf us. Please feel free to share.

As a former ballerina myself, and one who has performed at the Kennedy Center, this “news” made me both laugh and cry.
Trump Names Himself Principal Ballerina of Kennedy Center Ballet
Trump took to Truth Social to announce a purge of the company's ballerinas.

Allen Schmertzler, prescient as ever:
Despite the fact that my 2017 editorial depictions/predictions of Trump are more relevant after all these years, the reality of the situation is drastically more dire. The abstract is now fact.

It’s here! My feature in Dance Magazine’s December issue, on so-called “homegrown” dance companies who buck the traditional notion that the performing arts needs big-city imports. Locally sourced dancers are making world class art-here in Asheville and are making us a dance hub!

Some more of what I saw along the Swannanoa River and in Biltmore Village today. The amount of wreckage that remains, six weeks after the waters receded, is so hard to believe, but there it is.
There’s a little mitigation and clearing going on, but honestly, not much.

More scenes from the still-desolate Biltmore Village neighborhood of Asheville. Some restoration has begun, but lots of buildings look untouched since the day of the hurricane.
Looks and feels like a bombed out war zone.
