Read about how to do back-tracking of drifting stuff in the ocean in a Bayesian way! Think search-and-rescue with observed debris or a reported position: authors.elsevier.com/c/1kYvp5Cmkv... 🧪🌊 Using the OpenDrift framework: github.com/OpenDrift/op...

The paper describing our Small, friendly, buoYs (SFYs) is accepted: journals.ametsoc.org/view/journal... .

They record the full time series at 52 Hz! Beaming it back home over cellular. Used in moorings and in drifting configurations in the surf!
Code and hardware here: github.com/gauteh/sfy. 🌊🧪

A description of the Nazaré refraction experiment (in Norw.): www.met.no/nyhetsarkiv/.... With a video (in Eng.) explaining the refraction: vimeo.com/1041668524/f...

The wave buoys used are open-source: github.com/gauteh/sfy (pre-print for more on the buoys: arxiv.org/abs/2401.02286).

Trying to coordinate buoy deployments! Absolutely everything is moving, except maybe the canyon. #ocean #waves #surf #nazare

Have you ever needed to know whether you are in the ocean or on land? And you need to know it fast? And you need to know it without using too much memory or too much disk? Then try the Roaring Landmask!

Roaring Landmask is a #python and #rust package written for OpenDrift (opendrift.github.io).

Last week we tried to measure the wave propagation at Nazaré in Portugal. An enormous underwater canyon bends the waves towards the north (right) where the waves become steeper and taller! In collaboration with Colab+Atlantic. #waves #nazare #surf
