“What appealed to me in cybersecurity is that you are never really done. As long as there are human being outs there that want to do you harm you still have security problems to solve.”

Under his leadership, the school has seen tremendous growth in every area from personnel hiring to academic programs. Tomorrow, Regents’ Professor Mustaque Ahamad will take the reigns as interim chair until a new chair is hired.

Today is Dr. Michael Bailey’s last day as chair, but it’s not goodbye! He will be staying on as a professor and will teach CS 8803 Online Trust and Safety and CS 6250 Computer Networks this fall at Georgia Tech Europe.

Yibin Yang is another cryptographer advised by Professor Vladimir Kolesnikov who also has made impressive contributions to the field. According to his advisor, Yibin has improved his area of cryptography by three to four orders of magnitude!

During her time at Georgia Tech, Qinge Xie helped uncover thousands of browser extensions that were compromise data for millions of users. Advised by Assistant Professor Frank Li, her research has been presented at top security conferences!

Stan Peceny is a cryptographer who designed several core MPC algorithms and integrated them into fast tool chains, improving state of the art up to 1000x! Professor Vladimir Kolesnikov, his advisor, said he is very proud of Stan and his research!

Zhengxian He is a researcher who started his Ph.D. at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. He was advised by Professor Mustaque Ahamad and he collaborated with industry partners during his time at Georgia Tech. Zhengxian now works at Amazon!

Ammar Askar is an accomplished researcher and hacker advised by Professor Taesoo Kim. He helped develop a LLM-based concolic execution engine for the upcoming DARPA #AIxCC challenge for Team Atlanta!

Two SCP faculty received The Dean's Award, which is presented to a member or members of the college who have contributed significantly to the success of the college. Dean Sarkar selected a number of faculty including Prof. Kim and Regents Prof. Lee for their contributions to AI research!

Next, Animesh Chhotaray was awarded the Outstanding Research Scientist Award! Animesh works with Assoc. Professor Saman Zonouz and the Georgia Tech School of Electrical & Computer Engineering to protect the crucial cyber-physical systems found in critical infrastructure.

Our first winner is Frank Li, who received the Outstanding Junior Faculty Teaching Award. His students hold him in very high regard which is reflected in the annual Course Instructor Opinion Survey (CIOS) award for excellence in teaching.

Associate Professor Daniel Genkin will be receiving tenure as will @pearce.bsky.social, who is also being promoted from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor. Congratulations!
