That goes without saying! I'm rather fond of my fingers...

No. Fr 16/18 from fridge usually fly down with jaw thrust. If doesn't go in 1st time fingers at base of tongue usually do it.

Or, and this might sound crazy, maybe everybody should not have guns.

Perhaps this is a self selecting group?
I enjoy my work despite the long hours. I don't find it stressful generally.
It means I didn't have to worry about making ends meet which would be way more taxing.

Yup, agree totally. Might not make an obvious difference but always try to titrate ventilation to the patient and the situation. At least makes me feel like I'm using all my science! 🤣

Single lung transplant can see issues with unilateral hyperinflation due to big discrepancy in compliance but that's the only time I've seen it.

Maybe. It's hard to know exactly what is going on due to the complex/ variable interaction of surgery with our vent strategies. But if hyperinflation of dependent lung due to stacking was occurring the surgeon would be complaining. So...?

I'm with Karl on this. Try to make expiratory flow return to 0 before next breath. But like most things in theatre GAs probably makes no demonstrable difference. Frequently end up with "air trapping" flow waves on OLV but no issues. Might be crapper vents or better patient lungs?
