Another #astrophotography image from the archives, and the source of my banner page. This is the Iris Nebula, NGC 7023/LBN 487. Its a reflection nebula, the beautiful blue color coming from dust-scattered light from the bright blue star at center. Lots of occluding dust and gas around as well. 📷🔭

Good morning BlueSky! Feels like a weird fish day. You up for a weird fish? This is a flying gurnard (Dactylopterus volitans), which crawls along the ocean bottom on spines that work like legs, and has a bit of a showy defense mechanism w/those pectoral fins. Two views from a dive off Maui. :) 🧪

Huge astrophysics result! Ylva Gotberg & Maria Drout have discovered helium dwarf stars in the LMC and SMC galaxies! We've only had circumstancial evidence they exist but they've found them! :oD

This is a huge result and are stars only made in binaries!
