We’re entering the final days. Diane is completely unresponsive and is unable to eat or drink. She seems comfortable thanks to the fentanyl patches and morphine. Hospice nurse visits are now daily. She says that Diane can likely hear us but who knows if that’s true. Just awaiting the terrible call.

The priest visited Diane today to administer last rites. I hope that that brought her some comfort and peace. We’re told she can hear us even if she’s unable to respond or open her eyes most of the time.

Daily visits from the hospice nurse have started. She feels colder to the touch and her blood pressure is dropping. The end is near, I fear. I feel just so very sad. This photo was just a few months ago. You can barely recognize that this photo is the same person.

As glad as I am to see the backside of 2024, I dread 2025, knowing that my sister will not be able to see its passing.

I find myself welling up with tears at various points of the day. Had to dry my eyes before I picked up my iced matcha latte. It’s almost like I’m experiencing preemptive grief. I hate it.

Decided about a week ago that I needed to go to therapy but the earliest appointment I was able to get is Dec 10th, so using BlueSky in the interim to vomit out all my troubles. Aren’t you happy you followed? I probably should have included a warning in my profile.

The family and I saw my sister Sunday afternoon. She was in bed getting oxygen treatment but afterwards was able to get up and sit for a few hours before she needed to rest again. It’s hard seeing her like this and even harder knowing what’s coming.

Just wrote a letter to my sister, who just started at-home hospice care. I’ll see her on Sunday, but I find that putting words on a page helps with making sure my words have intention and allow for reflection as I write. My hands were shaky and I had to squint through tears, but it’s done.
