Edouard Manet’s “The Rue Mosnier with Flags”makes a biting critique of public hypocrisy. The grandiose display of the tricolors is undercut by the one-legged Franco-Prussian War veteran on the left. The oligarchs in the carriage at right seem only to notice the flags. Looks familiar somehow.
