*The Pendleton Act of 1883 introduced a merit-based Civil Service to minimize the patronage system corruption and incompetence
*Schedule F will subvert the top part of the Civil Service
*Buy-outs will subvert the rest
*Welcome back to the all the corruption and incompetence of the patronage system!

If Trump were as smart as he claims, he would appoint people who share his views and also have the competence to run the departments and agencies effectively.
December 29, 2024 at 11:02 PM
Trump named some good lawyers to second-level jobs at DOJ, but Patel would be a gross misfit at FBI. This position requires someone who is in tune with Trump and is competent in the trade. Otherwise, FBI actions under Patel would reap a whirlwind of criticism from the public. (TBC)

Intel appointees must be competent and free of security risk. Gabbard can’t run DNI and is a risk. Radcliffe, a small-town Texas mayor, would be lost at CIA and can’t be trusted with the nation’s top secrets. Trump needs highly competent and trustworthy people in these positions. (TBC)

Competent appointees to all key health agencies are crucial if Trump wants to avoid bird flu and perhaps other epidemics that could ruin his admin. Kennedy is an anti-vaxxer who can’t give a straight answer. CDC, FDA, and NIH all need competent directors if the country is to avoid tragedy. (TBC)
December 29, 2024 at 11:00 PM
Hegseth is a joke. He couldn’t run a small vets org, and he would be a total disaster at DOD. Trump needs someone at Defense who can modernize the services to be able to operate effectively whenever, wherever, and in whatever manner required. (TBC)

ACTION

If Trump wanted to achieve anything during his admin, he would stop toying with Senate Reps and appoint like-minded AND competent people to departments and agencies. (TBC)

IF Trump had the guts to do it!!

An agreement would also be signed between Ukraine, major European countries, and the US guaranteeing Ukrainian sovereignty, borders, and safety from aggression. (TBC)
December 27, 2024 at 4:19 PM
A “friendship accord” could be signed between Ukraine and Russia declaring inviolate the (pre-2014) borders and including other elements such as an agreement to sell major products [energy (electricity, oil & gas), agricultural commodities, minerals, etc.]. (TBC)
December 27, 2024 at 4:18 PM
Trump could tell Putin to declare victory (e.g. Nazis have been eliminated) and withdraw to its pre-2014 borders. At the same time, private militias could be sent to Ukraine to attain specific objectives. Ukraine could also be given every weapon it can handle to obliterate key Russian targets....
December 27, 2024 at 4:18 PM
If Trump really wanted to show that he was a tough guy, he would stand up to Putin rather than letting Putin push him around. Putin is weak at the moment because of the setback in Syria and the huge manpower losses in Ukraine. Any major push in Ukraine would send Russia into a spin. (TBC)

The patronage system flourished until the Pendleton Act of 1883. Trump issued Schedule F at the end of his first term, which would have allowed appointment of loyalists to a large number of positions. He reportedly intends to use it to appoint some 50K loyalists under Trump II.
December 23, 2024 at 10:59 PM
Trump apparently has no friends who are also competent. Compare his list of appointees with any other in history.

Hey, Macho Bros, enjoy the calm before the deportation storm. And others of the breed, wait till other actions of Trump II start to affect you or your families. Next time, vote with your heads, not some part lower down.
