Just between them and me... If you do another Metroid (Prime) game (and I sincerely hope you do), can we have one more akin to the earlier entries in terms of level design? That's really the brunt of my feedback here. Oh, and an option to shush the hint system, probably. See you next mission! 🧡

All in all, I hope @retrostudios.bsky.social managed to scratch their cinematic itch with this entry, and I hope they're proud of their work, because I did enjoy myself a lot. I'll even go as far as to say I came out liking all of the NPCs (yes, EVEN Mackenzie, despite his efforts).

There's space in the Metroid library for a more cinematic experience, and if you're looking for that, it's also a fun game. I enjoyed it a lot from that perspective. But having just replayed MP1-3, and jumping into 4, you do notice the glaring level design issues and extreme handholding.

Now, in general, these are things we encounter often in games, and if you're looking for a beautifully rendered shooter, with a high level of polish and no requirement to play for 50+ hours to experience it (a big plus, I think shorter more polished games are better), this is absolutely a good game.

- The player's intelligence is also greatly underestimated this time around. You're constantly being pushed to go places by NPCs, and there's no way to disable this. I think this is genuinely a mistake: had they given us the option to simply disable this, that would've helped a lot.

- A lot of little fun quirks are missing, like ball paths that you can see early that cross through several rooms, or routes that double back on your first entry into an area that you can see but not access when you first pass through. There are a couple, but they're used for storytelling only now.

I can't claim to be remotely objective on this, as I'm a Metroid veteran since Super, but here's some thoughts:
- Prime games usually made the player feel smart by designing an optimal path. Finding and following it made the game flow nicely, and discovering it felt great. MP4 is mostly linear.
