The corporations are free to do as they please, offshoring to use sweatshop labor, dumping toxic waste in third world countries; Fair trade is when the manufacturer of goods sold in the US pays a living wage and complies with US environmental laws, so US manufacturing can compete on an even footing.

For GE it was already cheaper 25 years ago to move nearly all R&D jobs to their "India Innovation Centres" in Bangalore and Hyderabad than it was to bring Indian engineers to the US on H1-B visas. Making the visas even more expensive won't help.

My old man—a combat-decorated WWII vet, got medals from the US government for fighting fascists. My great-great granddad and his brother, sons of an abolitionist family, marched with Sherman to the sea. Fighting fascists and racists is heritage, not hate.

I remember paper drivers licenses that didn't even have a picture. Just height, weight, hair and eye color. Everyone I knew under 21 carried a fake ID to buy beer.
