Thank you. We agree on much. I was indeed know as the “phonics queen” but the lack of understanding how to teach reading does worry me. We do need effective teaching.

Having taught hundreds of children to read it is important to remember there are many approaches required. Whilst phonics is the core , teachers need to cater for the child not a single approach. How about teachers need a depth of knowledge of reading acquisition? A couple of lectures is not enough.
