Let’s keep exploring ways to empower end users so that they can make adjustments to their devices/apps and also find ways to help designers and developers create technology that is made to be adaptable.

The example I can share is WCAG’s colour contrast success criteria. We always hear people say that you need to meet a minimum contrast to pass accessibility. But for some people high contrast is not comfortable for them to use and they want a lower contrast design.

This work also contributes to a larger conversation on the need for customisation and personalisation in accessible design to meet people’s access needs!

We need more adaptable technology design to address access friction!

Also, accessibility resources need to highlight that frictions can exist.

It’s great when apps offer dark mode or high contrast mode, or even other types of UI colour adjustments, but how bad is it when these modes are unavailable or have been poorly implemented?

We found some very compelling insights that show it can be more than an inconvenience! Please read our paper.
