Is the cat supposed to be on the counter? No.

Does she care what I think?
Also no.

I tried my hand at homemade potstickers (dumplings?) in some recipe I found for a coconut curry soup. 1/2 way through, I promise myself I’m never doing this to myself again.

All the kids loved it. Shoot.

When our adult son is home, we get card tricks.

(Sorry for the random tuba entering the chat in the background. Our tuba player snuck up on her younger brother with it.)

I just got a piece of popcorn stuck in my teeth, and I tried getting it out and now my gums are bleeding.

I’m not sure how much is TMI, like ever.

Young adults are just amazing. I love them so much. I’m spending this week in Pennsylvania teaching at the “Rooted” gap year program that meets at this magical manor house near Tuscarora retreat center.

Early morning selfie in the Fargo airport. I get to speak at the @solamediaorg conference in Orlando. Knut gets to come this time! We just survived the sprint across the snowy parking lot without our big coats in 0° weather so we don’t have to bring them to the 80° weather.

My oldest gave me a watercolor workbook for Christmas. Today I learned how to paint lavender. (My painting is on the right)

I’m firmly in my plant-lady era.

This morning when I was driving the kids to school, and the late winter sunrise was turning the sky purple this morning, and we went down one road that has an arch of trees all around it. And I looked up, and felt like I was looking at this Beck painting.

There’s this local artist who died a few years back. His name is Charles Beck and he did woodcut paintings. The local art gallery still sells his work, and one of these days I’m going to buy one.

We’ve reached our peak.

There is nowhere to go from here.

The garden carrot supply is dwindling. After tonight, they’ll stretch one, maybe two more meals. Ah, the colors of summer/fall.

We are entering the colorless, black, gray, brown, and white deep freeze. It’s going to be ok.

We made it past the winter solstice. Kid 2 is driving home for Christmas tonight, and kid 1 is flying home on Wednesday.

We had church this morning and will decorate cookies and watch the Vikings this afternoon. It’s going to be a good week.

Twice I took off my skis and just walked down the hill because I know my limits. Knut was so patient and just glad I was there. The kids were skiing circles around us.

Also, I have no intention of ever going on the “uff da” trail. I just love the sign.

I did 2 loops on the easy trail to warm up. Knut is a marathon skier and our son David is on a pro ski team. I try not to fall. Proud to say I only fell twice today. 1 because I was going too fast and got scared. The other because my foot slipped out of the track and I fell in the snow bank.

Our adult pro Nordic ski son raced today. He made it to the semi-finals in the skate race and missed the finals by a hair. Tomorrow is the classic race.

We decided to hit the trails near us today in honor of his race. We just got a ton of snow, and the trails were glorious

We didn't do a Christmas card this year, but I have to re-share this gem from 8 years ago, when we sent out this card. We heard from friends that I looked like one of the kids, and Knut was a single dad. We jokingly nicknamed this "A Mommy for Christmas, by Hallmark"

History is an interesting thing to study. Not only do you have to read what people said back then, but who said it, as everyone has their slant. Everyone has a motive.

I present, our own Pippi-Longstocking-child, Ingrid with her tuba for concert night. She’s the only tuba at her school. She turns 12 this week.

Living wild in my 40s is getting curly bangs, I guess.

Knut is back at work today. Not at 100%, but good enough, I guess. His partner is out for the day, so he won’t infect anyone.

This little guy is still recovering, though he’s perkier. He’s excited his teacher sent home some work. He’s skeptical I know how to help him, though.

16 yo son is back from his trip with friends. He road the bus all night and Knut picked him up this morning. He wants eggs, his dad’s coffee, and a nap.

Something deep in me settles when one more kid is home.
