A6: In that we are there for them when they need support, giving them good, solid economic arguments, helping to find effective & efficient solutions. Also in being pragmatic. Yes, it is important to consider everybody, but first steps in the right direction also count. #AXSChat #WeAreBillionStrong

A5: Interestingly, I heard somebody recently saying that accessibility or disability was the stepchild of DEI anyways. So now that might protect it against a bit of the backlash we see for other inclusion topics.

I do agree. And the reality is also that disability does not discriminate against young-old, left-right, skin colour or whatever else you might take as differentiator. Knowing it might affect all of us, probably helps in defending accessibility.

A5: No, because #a11y is well anchored in law now and in a technical sense. Meaning, the EAA sets out clear technical requirements that a device or service needs to fulfil to be allowed on the European market. And there are always knock-on effects to other world regions. #AXSChat #WeAreBillionStrong

A4: Tough to answer, but maybe you could say that the improvements in accessibility in devices of big manufacturers are incremental, building on top of, improving what they already have, and the smaller players might come in with something no-one has thought of so far. #AXSChat #WeAreBillionStrong

A3: You can only really learn sign language when you interact with the deaf community using that language. And once you get in touch with any of our disability groups, the need for accessibility and accessible solutions becomes obvious very quickly. And then the MWF hired me to work on GARI :-)

That's true, not all features are available in all world regions, but the majority is. For those features that are only available in certain regions, it has to do with the networks and what they cater for (RTT) or sometimes different legislation (HAC).

A2: I have :-) And I realised again that I am only using a fraction of what the device is capable of. That is the beauty in the feature listing in GARI - it gives you a view on 200+ features and then you can go and try what seems helpful to you.

A1: The EAA will help in this respect, as we’ll have the requirement for accessible information on the accessibility of devices in or on the packaging of devices. Manufacturers might use a QR-Code to link to the GARI profile of their device or any other means of informing the consumer.
