imo MVG gave the best explanation why flashcarts don't work & not to anticipate a firmware update correction, the "fix" will most likely have to come software-side
also good point on speedrunners, didn't consider that angle

Owned the games since I was eight years old, but only recently actually spent the time to beat the first game on cart. It was a really good time, all things considered.
Planning on going through the second game? It's the only other one with Uematsu involvement, and Ito's tracks are great, too.
