FYI I found a NOAA weather radio w battery back up, important for power outage or flooding in houses, and a bright flashing red light on a 3' wire to place higher up, on Amazon. Getting one for my elderly dad who lives alone.

Lucky that my husband is an engineer who was able to wire together a bunch of near dead batteries to operate an old radio! It was terrifying to hear a famous local meteorologist panicking on air about what was about to hit us!! I learned a lot of lessons from that and not having power for 4 weeks!

Since going through Hurricane Charley Aug 13, 2004 in Orlando, I have been on everyone I know to have NOAA weather radios EVEN WITH cell ph notifications. We went through Charley completely unprepared, it's path turned east suddenly and it rode up the state to us still at 105mph constant! We were...
