Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida), like many plants, has religious meaning.
The four petals of the flower appear blood-stained and are said to represent the cross, and the central cluster can be seen as symbolizing the crown of thorns.

The snowdrops in the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens are still greeting visitors, and have now been joined by their more colourful friends - crocus, winter aconite, heath, dwarf iris... each day we see more and more!
